Dear Northeast Families,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Markesha (Hillsman) Parker, and I am excited to be the new principal at Northeast Elementary Magnet School. I am a Danville native and a proud graduate of Danville High School. I am delighted to be a part of the Northeast community. Over the last few weeks, I have been getting to know the building, meeting with staff, and studying the school improvement goals. I love the connection between home and school that is present here at Northeast.

Academically and professionally, I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2005. I began teaching in 2006 and have been in the education profession for 12 years. I taught 4th grade for 2 years and 3rd grade for 7 years at Liberty Elementary School in Danville. For the past 3 years, I have been one of the Assistant Principals at Danville High School. I am a true believer in being a lifelong learner as I earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2009 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in 2014. I am always open to learn new things and I am excited to embark on this new journey of learning with you.

This year, I plan to build strong and trusting relationships with students, families, and teachers. I am so excited to meet the students and learn about their interests! Positive relationships are very important to me, and I am committed to get to know each child individually.

In addition to building strong relationships, it is important to me to be sure that you and your child(ren) feel safe at school. Please don’t hesitate to call me with any concerns. Communication is the key to success. For this reason, I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher or me with questions.

I am impressed with the many great programs already in place at Northeast! I look forward to continuing these traditions and providing a smooth transition for students, teachers, and families. I thank you for this opportunity to share my excitement and I look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,
Markesha Parker, Principal
Northeast Magnet Elementary
